Mission: Mission One: A New Beginning...(Backstory)
Location: Hawkeye Island - General's Office
Timeline: Backstory

Marine Captain Hunter stood patiently waiting outside General Katana's office. Nearby her Aide-de-camp sat quietly tapping away at her computer console. He stepped, arms behind his back to the nearby window and gazed out at the crystal blue waters and sandy beaches in the distance. As far as duty stations whent this place wasn't actually all that bad, even given the terrible state that the Squadron was in. There was also a rumor going around that the General was actually in a relationship with the Deputy Base Commander, which of course had to be nothing more than gossip. While there wasn't any specific rule in the Corps against that, it was widely frowned upon and seen as a huge conflict of interest. Which is why Hunter had already decided that it was nothing more than the idle gossip of Marines with too much time on their hands. He cleared his throat and glanced back at the assistant waiting for her signal that the General was ready to see him.

"You can go in Captain," the assistant replied motioning to the door. Leah and stood up as she felt that this was going to be a very interesting meeting. She had a feeling she knew what he wanted.

Hunter nodded to the secretary and stepped through the open doors before stopping several feet from her desk. He glanced around the very large office and noticed that there weren't any personal photo's or effects anywhere, either this was woman was boring as hell or she just hadn't had time to set up her stuff yet. "Captain Mike Hunter, thanks for taking the time." he gave her a marine corps nod and then added, "It's a pleasure to meet you Sir."

She looked at him and studied him for a moment, "Welcome to Hawkeye Island Captain." Leah replied as stood up offering her hand. "I know why you come, and I know about the state of the Starfighters as well as the building." Leah said a she walked around her desk. "The last Commander, it was not on his priority list to fix up the fighters or even the Marine unit which will have to be rebuilt to be able to fit all our Marines. Those will be our main priorities is to get those two areas operational." Leah replied as she had a feeling she didn't get the memo she had sent out.

She handed him a padd, "Here is what was sent down from the U.S.S. Gladiator to help fix the Valkaries." Leah added as she stood their.

Mike scanned through the PADD and nodded. He was impressed that she not only knew the circumstances in the squadron but had already sought a solution for the problems. "Now maybe the deck chief will stop screaming so much." he looked back up at Leah, "Thank you, this is perfect." he cleared his throat, "We did actually track down the last missing shipment, seems the entire lot is being held by a junk yard trader in Kanar-At, I was going to pass this info over to base security, not sure what they can do about it without upsetting the locals though. I haven't exactly gotten the feeling that we are all that welcome here."

She looked at him, "What is a Ferengi doing here on Raeya, it's bad enough they don't want Starfleet here, they sure don't want a Ferengi here." Leah replied as she walked over to her console. "Leah to Security, I am giving you the area where a certain Ferengi is at. I want him picked up and put in the brig, also retrieve any Starfleet equipment he may have." Leah replied as she sent the data over.

"Understood General," the security officer replied. "Let me know when you have him as I want to have talk with him." Leah added, "Aye Sir," the officer replied. She ended the comm and then turned her attention to Hunter. "Well your'll have more equipment here soon." Leah replied as she looked at him.

"You sure don't waste time general, I appreciate that." Hunter replied. Now with the formalities out of the way he changed the topic to what was really on his mind. "Sir, I have been given zero information on the reason why Starfleet believes it needs to suddenly re-establish its presence here, I don't want to step out of line, but does Starfleet believe that a conflict is imminent?"

"Right now I can't explain that but, I will explain it soon enough with the Senior Staff at our meeting tomorrow. Right now, I am still getting all of the information." Leah replied looking at him.

He nodded, "Understood." taking a second to think he then continued, "Well then my additional questions can wait till then as well." he looked at Leah, "If there is nothing else General I'll let get out of your hair."

"I can't think of anything at the moment, those equipment you will need should be at the Fighter bays within the hour including the ones that were stolen." Leah said with a smile. "Just get those fighters up and running as well as the building." Leah ordered as she knew time would be of the essence.

"Yes Sir, and thank you again for your quick resolution of the problem." Hunter replied before turning and making a fast exit. As far as first impressions went, he thought to himself as he passed the assistant and left the office, she came across as an all business by the book type of Officer, not surprising given her Bajoran heritage. "Nope, those rumors are definitely not true." he decided with a chuckle, realizing how silly it was for him to even consider the idea in the first place.
